James Kohlbeck oversees the firm’s financial strategy, capital structuring, and long-term planning. He plays a key role in driving investment performance, optimizing capital deployment, and supporting scalable growth across Zen’s real estate portfolio. Prior to joining Zen Investing, James served as CFO for a private equity real estate development firm specializing in large scale master-planned communities. He built the company’s financial and operational foundation from the ground up, raising nearly $400 million to support projects totaling over $1 billion in revenue. Under his leadership, the firm developed more than 25 master-planned communities comprising over 7,000 lots and residential units across high-growth markets. James holds a BBA from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and earned both an MBA and an MS in Finance from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He is a licensed CPA in the state of California.
